Ganoderma multipileum — a distinct species within the Ganoderma lucidum complex, sold and studied under the "G. lucidum" name until DNA sequencing separated it out in 2009. Grown under elevated CO2, it takes to dramatic antler and stag-horn fruiting body formation more readily than standard G. lucidum strains, instead of the classic kidney-shaped cap. Shares the same core bioactive compound classes — ganoderic acids, beta-glucan polysaccharides, immunomodulating proteins — as standard Reishi, though as a separate species exact concentrations haven't been directly compared. Different species, different growing experience.
The antler form is prized by tincture makers for its increased surface area (more exposed tissue per gram), easier processing, and striking visual presentation for display or gifting. Higher CO2 during the full fruiting cycle suppresses cap formation and drives vertical antler growth — managing this precisely is what makes this grow uniquely satisfying for advanced cultivators.
Culture Bank — 10cc of lab-isolated Ganoderma multipileum mycelium in nutrient broth, grown under our antler-cultivation protocol. Colonizes grain in 5–10 days. Maintain CO2 above 5,000 ppm throughout fruiting by limiting fresh air exchange — the opposite of most species.
